“I could not be more pleased with our fourth quarter fundraising results,” Gabbard said. “People from all over the district are getting involved in our campaign and our success is a reflection of a growing grassroots movement. The fact is, people have had it with the old, tired politics. They know that if we’re going to create jobs and break through the gridlock in Congress, we need fresh, new leadership. I’m honored that so many different people trust me to help usher in a brighter future.”

The numbers bring Gabbard’s total for 2011 up to $356,360 raised, with 60 percent of all donations coming in increments of $200 or less. The campaign’s total cash-on-hand is $317,278.

* Contributions: $208,255
* Cash on hand: $317,278
* Contributions of $200 or less: 60 percent
* Contributions from Hawaii: 74 percent

Gabbard Background:

As a member of the Hawaii National Guard, Tulsi Gabbard served two tours of duty in the Middle East. She was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for her service and was recently commissioned as a Captain.

A Democrat, Tulsi was the youngest woman in America ever elected to a state legislature when in 2002 at the age of 21 she won a Hawaii State House seat. Two years later, Tulsi sacrificed her position in the Legislature to voluntarily join her fellow soldiers being deployed to a war zone in Iraq.

Between her two deployments to the Middle East, Tulsi served as an aide to Sen. Daniel Akaka in the U.S. Senate.

In 2010, she was elected to the Honolulu City Council where she chairs the Safety, Economic Development, and Government Affairs committee.

Gabbard is a candidate for Hawaii’s second congressional district encompassing rural Oahu and the Neighbor Islands.
