HELCO will seek geothermal technologies that provide firm, fully dispatchable capability, that is, the ability for the utility to schedule and control the output power from the geothermal plant. This will help maintain reliability and at the same time help to manage intermittent resources such as wind and solar photovoltaic power. HELCO hopes to add up to 50 megawatts (MW) more of geothermal power if the cost is lower for customers.

Big Island police charged a Hilo man last night (January 5th) in connection with an incident that occurred late yesterday afternoon in Waiākea Uka.  18-year-old Jeremy J. Costa, of Hilo was arrested following a confrontation he had with an off-duty police officer.  The incident occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. at a home under construction located near Costa’s residence.

Big Island police are investigating a robbery that occurred Thursday night (January 5) at a business located within the Kaloko Business Center V on Kamanu Street in Kailua-Kona. 

Responding to an 8:06 p.m. call, Kona patrol officers made contact with a 63-year-old Kailua-Kona woman, who reported an unknown male had entered into her business spending several minutes looking at merchandise in the shop.

Hamakua man turns himself in, is arrested in sex assault case

On Wednesday (December 28, 2011) during the early morning hours an adult female reported being sexually assaulted at a South Kohala public beach. Big Island police arrested 27-year-old Eagle Adam Tobin of Honokaʻa, for Sexual Assault. Tobin turned himself in to police on January 5. He was released pending further investigation.
