Big Island lane closures for the week of January 30 through February 3, 2012

— HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) —

1) LAUPAHOEHOE TO NINOLE
Intermittent single lane closures on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) in both directions between Stevens Road and Old Mamalahoa Highway on Monday, January 30, through Friday, February 3, From 8 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, for slope stabilization work and road resurfacing.

2) HONOKAA (CONTINUOUS)
24-hour single lane closures on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) in alternating directions between Kapuna Road and Pikake Street (vicinity of Milepost 44), for road reconstruction work. A temporary traffic signal will be placed in the area to control traffic around the work site.

— MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) —
1) KALAOA
Alternating lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) in both directions between Mileposts 27 and 31 in the vicinity of Makalei on Monday, January 30, through Friday, February 3, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, daily, for guardrail installation and pavement striping work.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Construction continues on Crater Rim Drive from KÄ«lauea Visitor Center to Highway 11 which includes the entrance station.

Pavement work between the Entrance Station and Hwy 11 began on Thursday, January 26, 2012

Work continues at KÄ«lauea Visitor Center resetting historic curb stones.

Work is scheduled to resume on Mauna Loa Road Thursday, January 26, 2012. Mauna Loa Road will be closed during the day from approximately 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, but will be open at night and on the weekend. The main segment of Mauna Loa Road from Hwy 11 to KÄ«pukapuaulu remains open to the public.

The west half of the Steam Vents parking lot will be closed beginning Monday, January 23, 2012 for approximately one week, and then the east half will be closed for another week. All traffic must enter and exit through the open entrance. These closures will remain in place overnight and on the weekends. Busses will not be able to use the Steam Vent parking area during this time because there is not enough room to turn around.

Work is scheduled for Hilina Pali Road from Monday, January 30, through Friday, February 10, 2012. Work will begin at the overlook (end of the road) and work back towards Chain of Craters Road. During construction, Hilina Pali Road will be closed from the current construction location to the overlook, but will reopen each evening and on the weekends.

Pavement reconstruction is scheduled for the KÄ«lauea Visitor Center parking lot beginning Thursday, February 9, 2012. Traffic flaggers will be in place to assist with parking.

Expect up to 15 minute delays through construction areas. Please be observant and aware of the need for caution while driving through work zones. Thank you for your patience.
