UPDATED (1/23/12 at 10 a.m.)

Fire/rescue units responded to a 6:32 p.m. alarm Sunday (Jan 22) to a structure fire of the old vacant Kona Bakery next to Discovery Antiques in Kealakekua South of Hale Ke‘e Ke‘e Place.

Crews found a quarter of the ground level two-story structure on fire. Firefighters had the fire under control by 7:20 p.m. with the fire declared out at 10:18 p.m.

Mamalahoa Highway fronting the fire scene was roadblocked during the firefighting operation. Darkness and the collapse of the roof onto the ground level made the operation difficult for firefighters to complete quickly.

There were no injuries reported in the blaze and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
