High surf advisory in effect for Kona Monday (Jan 9)

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for West facing shores of the Big Island from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday (Jan 10).

Surf is forecast to be five to eight feet causing large breaking waves and rip currents. Beachgoers are advised to stay out of the ocean and away from the water’s edge where large waves are impacting the shoreline.

Another swell is forecast to arrive Tuesday and a larger Northwest swell should arrive Wednesday causing elevated surf for most North and West facing shores into Thursday.

A Small Craft Advisory for hazardous seas is in effect for all Hawaiian waters until 6 a.m. Monday except for Maalaea Bay.
