The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Warning for the North and West facing shores of all islands. The warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday (Jan 5).
Surf is forecast to be 15–25 feet along North facing shores of the Big Island and eight to 12 feet along West facing shores. The surf levels will peak tonight for the Big Island.
A High Surf Warning indicates dangerous, battering waves pounding the shoreline. Beachgoers are urged to avoid entering the water due to strong, dangerous rip currents and pounding waves.
Boaters should be aware of moderate to heavy harbor surges and the possibility of waves breaking in harbor entrances. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect through 6 a.m. Thursday for all Hawaiian waters.
