By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Warning for Kona along with North and East facing shores from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Thursday (Jan 3–5).

Surf heights are forecast to be 15-25 feet along North facing shores and eight to 12 feet along West facing shores. The surf is expected to increase dramatically Tuesday night and peak Wednesday afternoon.

A High Surf Warning indicated that dangerous battering waves will pound the shoreline producing deadly rip currents and possibly run-up low-lying costal areas.
