Bird hunting being offered at PTA this weekend (Dec 24–26)

PTA bird hunting opportunities this weekend POHAKULOA TRAINING AREA, Hawaii – U. S. Army Garrison-Hawaii Command will open portions of the training area, here, to local bird hunters this weekend, Dec. 24-26, in selected PTA locations.

Shot gun bird hunting will be permitted during approved times in training areas 1-4, 12, 14 and 15.

Licensed hunters will be issued temporary hunting passes and maps at designated check-in/check-out stations beginning at 5 a.m. and check-out no later than 7 p.m. on both days. No early access to hunting areas will be allowed.

The Kilohana hunter check-in/check-out station has been relocated between mile marker 43 and 44 on Saddle Road. The Huluhulu hunter check-in/check-out station is located across from the Mauna Kea and Saddle Road junction, near mile marker 28. Check-in stations will be monitored by State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources personnel.

No ATV’s, dirt bikes or any recreational vehicles will be allowed with the temporary access. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the training or hunting areas.

Any vandalism, theft or destruction of government property, to include all fencing units, will require the closing of all hunting and recreational activities for a minimum of 30 days while investigations are conducted.
