By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for North and East facing shores of the Big Island until 6 a.m. Thursday (Dec 22).

Surf is forecast to be in the five to eight foot range. High surf can produce dangerous rip currents and cause beach erosion. Beachgoers and swimmers should use caution in and near the ocean.

A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday for all Hawaii channels and coastal waters except for Oahu and Maui leeward waters.
