Police investigating Hilo robbery Tuesday (Nov 15)

Big Island police are investigating a robbery near the Kamehameha Avenue soccer fields in Hilo on November 15.

Responding to an 8:01 p.m. call, South Hilo patrol officers met with a 41-year-old man, who reported that he had been sitting under a banyan tree near the outskirts of the soccer fields when an unknown man walked up from behind him, struck him and took several items of his property. The victim was treated for his injuries at Hilo Medical Center and then released.

The suspect is described as a short local male with a medium build wearing a black or brown hooded sweater.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.

Police ask that anyone with information about this case call Detective Reed Mahuna at 961-2384 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
