State adopts new edition of Robert’s Rules of Order

MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawaii State Association of Parliamentarians is advising hundreds of the state’s community organizations and political parties that the new 11th edition of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised has officially replaced the 10th edition as the “current edition” of this authority for the purpose of any organization whose bylaws or constitution provide for the “current edition” to be its parliamentary authority.

In Hawaii, state law makes it the parliamentary authority for neighborhood boards and apartment and homeowners associations as well.

The original Robert’s Rules of Order was written by American General Henry M. Robert in 1876. Henry M. Robert III, General Robert’s grandson is a co-author of the new edition.

Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised is America’s foremost guide to parliamentary procedure and effective meeting management. It is used by more professional associations, fraternal organizations, and local governments than any other parliamentary authority.

Dr. William Puette, a professional registered parliamentarian and President of the Hawaii State Association of Parliamentarians, was in Florida on September 23, Henry M. Robert III.

There are 222 members of the State Association of Parliamentarians in Hawaii, which was awarded special recognition by the National Association of Parliamentarians for more than doubling its membership in the past year, making Hawaii the third largest Association in the country.

Parliamentarians throughout the country assist organizations with conducting better meetings, board training, and more.
