MEDIA RELEASE
The Kona Outdoor Circle is having a Community Meeting on “Our Path to Zero Waste†5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the West Hawaii Civic Center Community Hale, Building G.
Acting Director of the Hawaii County Department of Environmental Management, Dora Beck will address issues regarding the County’s Zero Waste Program, Recycling Programs and the County landfill.
Hawaii County has adopted the concept of Zero Waste, which is a way of life that promotes the goal of reducing the amount of material that is thrown away and instead reincorporates by- products of one system for use in another system.
Some things that can be done to reach Zero Waste are minimizing the consumption of goods; avoiding single use consumptibles; buying recyclable products; using reuseable shopping bags and taking green waste to be made into mulch.
Beck will have much more information to share and will answer your questions about Zero Waste. Hawaii County’s website www.co.hawaii.hi.us also has more information from the Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division & Recycling Section.
Zero Waste safeguards the future saves money and protects the environment. The event is free and the public is invited.
