Chief Harry Kubojiri has promoted Captain James O’Connor to police major effective October 16.

O’Connor, who is now in charge of the Internal Affairs and Criminal Intelligence Units, will be assigned to Area II Operations in West HawaiÊ»i.

On the same date, Major Randy Apele, now assigned to Area II Operations, will transfer to Area I Operations in East Hawaiʻi.

O’Connor is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Some of his past assignments include patrol sergeant in Waimea, police lieutenant in charge of the Records and Identification Section, commander of the Special Response Team and police captain in charge of the Kaʻū District.

He joined the Hawaiʻi Police Department in 1993.

    I frikkin can’t believe it!! A WHITE MAN has actually received a promotion…..sheeeshh…….what’s the world coming to here ?

    oh…btw…that “Special Response Team”…has it even been used once?…it’s a sham…ask the people on the unit…they mostly entertain school children with their “tactics”…truth is…they exist because of a federal grant and one truly skilled Vet could take out the whole unit.

    Whoops, I read it again, he was promoted to MAJOR and into Operations II in West Hawaii. Again, I’m sure he was a good choice.
