The University of Hawaii at Hilo softball program will be hosting a benefit kick-ball tournament benefiting CureSearch for Children’s Cancer on Saturday, November 19 on the UHH softball and baseball fields.

“I thought it would be great opportunity for our softball program to support such a worthy cause,” said UHH Head Coach Jaime Wallin. “The goal is to have 10 or more teams.

“And if each team can raise $100 or $150 per team and we get 20 teams, then we’ve done our part. There is no fee to participate. Anybody can participate. What we want to do is try to encourage the participating teams to get their families, friends, classmates, professors … to donate on behalf the organization.”

Kick-It is a grassroots program that raises money for children’s cancer research by inspiring people across the country to play kickball. Donations directly help children and young adults with proceeds benefiting CureSearch to fund research at the Children’s Oncology Group. This group of medical professionals treats 90% of children with cancer at over 180 hospitals in the United States.

“We would love for you to put a team together and/or pass this information along to your family, friends, and students in order to help us reach our goal of raising $2000,” said event coordinator/softball assistant coach Simone Brandalise.
