DUI stats for the week of September 19-25, 2011

During the week of September 19, 2011, through September 25, 2011, Big Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Four were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,084 DUI arrests compared with 1,147 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,011 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,025 during the same period last year, a decrease of of 1.4 percent.

So far this year, there were 16 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 22 during the same period last year, a decrease of 27.3 percent.

To date, 11 fatalities this year were related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (3), or a combination of both (5).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
