Police find Hilo man wanted on a warrant

Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 35-year-old Hilo man wanted on a $1,000 bench warrant.

Eddie Poai is described as Hawaiian, 5-foot-6, 165 pounds with black hair and numerous tattoos on his arms, back and chest. He frequents the Hilo and Puna areas.

He is wanted for contempt of court. Police also want to speak to him about several ongoing investigations. Police ask that the public not approach Poai, as he is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe. Crime Stoppers doesn’t record calls or subscribe to caller ID. UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE (9/8/11)

Big Island police have located 35-year-old Eddie Poai of Hilo, who was wanted on a $1,000 bench warrant.

Poai was arrested Wednesday (September 7) and charged with contempt of court. He is being held at the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section investigate a possible additional charge of possessing a prohibited weapon.

Police thank the public for their assistance.
