Salaveria appointed deputy director of finance

MEDIA RELEASE

Gov. Neil Abercrombie has announced the appointment of Luis P. Salaveria as Deputy Director of the Department of Budget & Finance (B&F).

“I’m really excited to be a part of the Abercrombie Administration, there are many challenges facing the state and I look forward to the opportunity to making a contribution,” Salaveria said.

Salaveria brings to B&F 20 years of experience in financial and accounting management.

From 2001 to 2011, he served as Finance Manager of Kaiser Permanente Hawaii.

He served for four years, from 1997 to 2001, as Chief Budget Analyst for the state Department of Defense. He was responsible for the development and execution of capital and operational budgets of the Hawaii Air and Army National Guard, State Civil Defense and Office of Veterans Services, as well as serving as the department’s government liaison and lobbyist to state and federal agencies.

Salaveria served previously as: Committee Clerk for the state Senate Committee on Transportation, Military and Intergovernmental Affairs (1996 to 1997); and Budget Supervisor (1995 to 1996) and Budget Analyst (1993 to 1994) for the state Senate Committee on Ways and Means.

Salaveria holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

B&F Director Kalbert Young said, “Luis’s experience and background will be of benefit to both our finance operations as well as for our attached agencies. I look forward to working with Luis as we continue to transform the way government does business.”

Salaveria starts Sept 1. He replaces Dean Hirata, who resigned July 30, 2011.
