Kamehameha Schools – Hawaii has the bragging rights after topping Keaau in the inaugural Kipimani Cup.
Saturday’s match-up saw Kamehameha capitalize on a 23-7 halftime lead and hold off Keaau for a final score of 36-21.
That means Kamehameha gets its hands on the perpetual trophy for the year and forever claim victory in the cup’s first game.
The cup was presented to the winner of a goodwill football game between Kamehameha and Keaau high schools.
Both high schools are on land once owned by W.H. Shipman, which sponsors the Kipimana Cup.
W.H. Shipman awarded $500 to each school’s booster club.
“Kipimana†is how Hawaiians referred to Shipman more than 100 years ago, and the name is used today as a street name in the Keaau area.
