Skye Storm (aka Lee Vinson) presents PROUD, Kona’s Gay Pride 2011 event 8 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 27) at the Remixx Lounge (formerly Mixx Bistro) in the King Kamehameha Mall in Kailua-Kona.

Gay Pride has become an annual tradition around the world as people of every gender, race and sexual orientation come together to celebrate diversity. This year’s West Hawaii event is sponsored by Storm Productions and Big Island Weekly.

Host Lee Vinson is a popular local entertainer seen most recently on stage at the Aloha Theatre as Frank-n-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show. He is also a well-known female impersonator famous for his celebrity looks and dance moves.

Vinson has brought together top local talent plus all of the former “Miss Hawaii Island Pride” winners for the PROUD event. The night’s entertainment will include performances by female impersonators, D.J. Salsa Rick, Go-Go dancers and more.

A palm reader will also add some magic to the evening.

“The Big Island community has always been cool with people of diversity and I am happy that these local businesses and performers have come together to celebrate that,” Vinson said.

The cover charge is $8 with a portion of the proceeds being donated to Hawaii Island HIV/Aids Foundation, which also is sponsoring “THE TASTE OF LIFE” benefit earlier that night.
