Free Health Fests in Hilo, Kona support active, healthy lifestyles

Mayor Billy Kenoi announces the “Mayor’s 2011 Health Fest, Our Island, Our Families, Our Health,” a free family event on Saturday Aug. 6, 2011 in Hilo, and Saturday, Aug. 13 in Kona.

The Health Fest is designed to promote the health and wellness of all the citizens of Hawaii Island. All are welcome at the Health Fest and are encouraged to attend and participate in the various health and fitness activities. Activities offered by the County Parks and Recreation Department include zumba, zumba gold, tai chi, line dancing, aerobics and keiki activities. Other activities include paddle board racing, roller derby, and bicycle safety training.

Registration for the first-ever Mayor-athon (fun run/walk) begins at 7:30 a.m.

Entertainment will include the Honokaa High School Jazz Band, the Waiakea Intermediate School ukulele band, and free food will be served.
