Christmas at Kona Village moves to Fairmont


With the unfortunate closing of Kona Village Resort, the American Culinary Federation (ACF) Kona Kohala Chefs moves its annual Christmas fundraiser to The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii.

Newly named, Christmas at The Fairmont-Dining With the Chefs, the holiday gala is 5:30-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at the luxurious Kohala Coast resort.

In its 23rd year, the annual benefit provides scholarship assistance to student culinarians at Hawaii Community College-West Hawaii, Big Island high schools and to qualifying ACF members for continuing education.

More than 20 top Hawaii chefs will use primarily locally sourced ingredients to prepare tantalizing cuisine — all accompanied by handcrafted ales, wines and 100 percent Kona coffee. Under the stars, enjoy island music and an exciting live auction of exclusive, private dinner parties and receptions expertly hosted by local chefs.

The auction will also offer Christmas gingerbread houses; the expertly crafted displays are perfect for holiday decorating.

Debuting last year, the houses are done by local college students under the supervision of pastry chef instructor Fernand Guiot, 15-year owner of Kailua-Kona’s popular French Bakery. During the event, students will be on hand to “talk story” about their creations and goals for pursuing a culinary career.

Ticket prices are $75. In addition, reserved tables of 10 are available for $1000. Tickets will be sold starting in October, conveniently charge tickets by phoning 329-2522. They can also be purchased at Kailua Candy Company, Clark Realty/Kona, Kona Wine Market, Café Pesto Hilo and The Fairmont Orchid.

A special event rate of $239 is offered for Partial Ocean View including breakfast for two and self-parking at The Fairmont.
