DUI stats for the week of July 25-31, 2011

During the week of July 25, 2011, through July 31, 2011, Big Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 835 DUI arrests [Revised total 08-21-11] compared with 883 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.4 percent.

There have been 778 major accidents so far this year compared with 799 during the same period last year, a decrease of of 2.6 percent.

So far this year, there were 15 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 19 during the same period last year, a decrease of 21.1 percent.

To date, eight fatalities this year were related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (1), or a combination of both (4).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
