Brushfire grows to five acres due to trade winds Thursday (July 28)

By Hawaii 24/7 Staff

Fire crews answered a 12:14 p.m. alarm Thursday (July 28) to Honokaa-Waipio Road for a brushfire between the four and five mile markers on the makai side of the road.

The roadway was blocked while firefighters and chopper one battled the fast moving brushfire fanned by trade winds pushing the fire towards the highway. The two acres of farmland burning grew to five acres by the time the fire was out at 4 p.m.

There were no injuries reported in the blaze and the roadway was opened once the burn area was clear for vehicles.
