Fire destroys home in Puna Wednesday morning (July 27)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 10:12 a.m. alarm Wednesday (July 27) for a two-story home on fire on Oceanview Parkway in the Blacksands Subdivision in Puna.

Fire crews found the first floor of the home engulfed in flames with the fire spreading to the second floor. Firefighters witnessed a large explosion of a 100 gallon propane tank which blew the roof off part of the garage.

Firefighters had the blaze under control by 10:45 a.m. and out by 3 p.m. The two-story 2,100 square-foot home and carport and contents were destroyed in the fire. A home next door sustained heat damage with paint blistering. The loss from the fire was estimated at $190,000.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
