DUI stats for the week of July 18-24, 2011

During the week of July 18, 2011, through July 24, 2011, Big Island police arrested 26 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 805 DUI arrests compared with 856 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.0 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 750 major accidents so far this year compared with 774 during the same period last year, a decrease of of 3.1 percent.

So far this year, there were 14 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 18 during the same period last year, a decrease of 22.2 percent.

To date, eight fatalities this year were related to drugs only (3), alcohol only (1), or a combination of both (4).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
