This month’s selection is Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. Wolf Hall takes a slice of Tudor history and allows the reader to view it through the eyes of Thomas Cromwell, who rose through life from his origins as the son of a blacksmith to become the chief minister of King Henry VIII. Henry VIII’s challenge to the church’s power with his desire to divorce his queen and marry Anne Boleyn set off a tidal wave of religious, political and social turmoil that reverberated throughout 16th-century Europe.
Mantel sets out to describe a tumultuous period in English history, not by focusing on the main event – Henry and Anne – but by showing the struggle faced by those more behind the scenes.

There will be no meeting in August. The Book Club will resume in September to discuss The Help by Kathryn Stockett.
Aloha, Can you put me in touch with officials of the local book clubs that have meetings in your library? I have recently completed a work of historical fiction dealing with ancient Polynesian mariners that would have a definate interest among your local population.
