Fire/rescue crews answered a 10 a.m. alarm Friday (July 15) to a structure fire in Ninole along Highway 19 in Ninole.
Upon arriving firefighters found 50 percent of a single family wooden home on fire. Crews brought the blaze under control within 15 minutes. The 1,000 square foot home sustained an estimated $130,000 worth of damage.
During the fire a witness heard an explosion in the blaze possibly a propane tank erupting. There was no one in the home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported. The Hilo bound lane was blocked during firefighting operations.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
