Ironman champion Stadler undergoes heart surgery

MEDIA RELEASE

German triathlete Normann Stadler underwent emergency heart surgery July 4 at Heidelberg University Hospital to repair a failing heart valve and repair an aortic aneurysm, according to a press release from the Commerzbank Triathlon Team.

His surgeon, Professor Matthias Karck, and his family report the surgery went well and Stadler is on his way to recovery.

Stadler, 38, won the Ironman World Championship in 2004 and 2006, and has had plenty of other success in the world of triathlon.
