Scuba divers found the body of Ernesto Combes, of Nanawale Estates, in Kawainui Stream Wednesday (July 13).

The victim was found 500 yards downstream of ‘six-ton bridge’ at the bottom of a pond 30 feet deep. Divers brought Combes’ body to the surface and used Chopper One to airlift the victim for release to Hawaii County Police.

Combes was swept away by a flash flood Sunday night as he and three others searched for Opae (prawns) in a cave area above ‘six-ton bridge’ area of Onomea Scenic Route Road. The discovery caps three days of search efforts by ground crews, divers and a helicopter crew along Kawainui Stream in Pepeekeo.
