Lindsey Road, tax talk on WCA agenda (July 7)

MEDIA RELEASE

Construction plans to reinforce Waimea’s Lindsey Road bridge will be reviewed by county Public Works Director Warren Lee during Waimea Community Association’s (WCA) Town Meeting from 5:15-7 p.m. Thursday, July 7 in Waimea School Cafeteria.

The construction project will eliminate the need for a battery of temporary supports that have been in place under the Lindsey Bridge to assure it is able to handle heavy loads using this essential cross-island corridor.

Lee will review the duration of the project, work hours, proposed traffic detours and signage, the design concept, cost, contractor’s representative for contact and questions, etc.

Also added to the Town Meeting agenda is a surprise presentation by violinists with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival (HPAF), under the direction of Iggy Jang, the popular concertmaster of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra.

Several of the performers have Big Island roots, and it will be a special pleasure to begin the community association meeting with such talented artists.

The main topic for discussion at the Waimea Town Meeting will be “Real Property Tax 101” – a discussion of how Hawaii County’s real property tax (RPT) system works by county Director of Finance Nancy Crawford and county Real Property Tax Administrator Stan Sitko.

Also on agenda will be an update on North Hawaii Community Hospital including expansion of medical services and facilities, concerns about protecting Waimea’s large magnificent trees, and introduction of the new Community Advisory Committee.

Also presenting will be County Councilman Pete Hoffmann, and Maluhia O’Donnell about Punana Leo O Waimea’s plans to become a “satellite campus” for Ke Kula Mauli Ola Hawaii O Nawahiokalaniopuu, a Hawaiian language immersion public charter school.
