Purse stolen from 70 year-old woman’s car as she attends funeral

Big Island police are investigating a car break-in during a funeral in Hilo on June 17.

A 70-year-old Kurtistown woman woman reported that she left her purse in her car while she attended a funeral in the Wainaku area between 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. When she returned to her car, her purse was missing. The purse contained cash and personal belongings.

Police ask that anyone with information about this case call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe. Crime Stoppers doesn’t record calls or subscribe to caller ID.
