Democrats host Independence Day picnic in Kona

Members of the Hawaii County Democratic Party will come together for the Tenth Annual Independence Day Family Reunion Picnic 1:30-4 p.m. Monday, July 4 at Old Kona Airport State Park Pavilion.

The event is free and features food, fun and entertainment for all ages. The picnic is a fun-filled family event and has attracted between 200-400 Democrats and friends in the past several years.

A Rummage Sale will open the festivities around 10:30 a.m. with a multitude of treasures that have been donated for the event.

Special games and activities will be offered for the keikis, while attendees will also have the opportunity to discuss current public issues with Democratic office holders and candidates.

Hot dogs, beverages, salads, desserts, musical entertainment and $1,000 worth of door prizes are also being provided by the Hawaii County Democratic Party.

This “family reunion” type event will bring together Gov, Neil Abercrombie, Democratic office holders, candidates and their supporters from every district in Hawaii County as well as candidates for U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Daniel Akaka.

Information about the Democratic Party, the candidates, and the issues will be available. It will also be a rally for Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic Presidential Candidate.

Everyone is invited to join local Democrats and Democratic candidates and march in the 4th of July Parade at 5:30 p.m.
