Make way for the D.A.-haired T-Birds and the gum-popping Pink Ladies! The Rydell High School class of 1959 will roll into town and rock the Aloha Theatre stage this summer!

Aloha Performing Arts Company and Aloha Teen Theatre will present the classic 50’s rock and roll musical “Grease” by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Boasting familiar songs such as “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’,” “Beauty School Dropout,” “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee,” and “We Go Together,” all evocative of a beloved bygone era, this high energy show promises to be the perfect end to APAC’s 24th season.

Guest director David A. Payne, music director Sharon Cannon, vocal director Sue Boyum, and choreographer Seatree Osage make up the team that recently cast the production from open auditions.

The lead characters of Danny, the leader of the T-Birds, and Sandy, the innocent newcomer to Rydell High, will be played, respectively, by Kealakehe incoming senior Jonathan Kutsunai and 2011 Kealakehe graduate Jaquelynn Collier, in her final appearance on the Aloha stage.

Other T-Birds include James Kelsey as Kenickie, second in command; Alec Lugo (in his fifth APAC mainstage role this season) as Roger; Bowen Ressler as Doody; and Taylor Kinsey as Sonny.

The “Pink Ladies” is a girl’s gang consisting of Chamika Fujioka as Frenchy, Katelyn Howard as Rizzo, Robin Baker as Marty, and Sara Frazier as Jan.

Other high schoolers include Caitlynne Johnson-Underwood as Cha Cha, Isaac Dwyer as Eugene, and Mia Kriebl-Bruno as Patty Simcox. A chorus of other Rydell denizens will consist of Celine Pinault, Eden Hershberger, Heather Bartlett, NIcole Aragon, Raisa Klyne, Spencer Stefany, and Zachary Kaneshiro.

Adult cast members are: Renee Brown, as Miss Lynch, the old maid English teacher; Tim Bruno, as radio disc jockey Vince Fontaine; and Sam Valenti, as Johnny Casino and Teen Angel.

The production will feature a mentoring network designed to enable youngsters to learn from seasoned theatre veterans. Adult mentors for the production include producers Arlene Araki and Dick Hershberger, set and costume designer Gerald Lucena, seamstress Carol Connnor, hair designer Joannie Carey, assistant director Kimberley Huff, stage manager Terry Ann Fujioka, master set builder Bert Foerschler, technical director April Mai, sound technician Christy Aragon, box office manager Michelle Solomon, and house manager Jeannie Kutsunai.

Young people learning from these experienced practitioners will be Simon Ellis, Tiffany Kutusnai, Jacy Anderson, Max Troberg, Pierce Marr, Eden Hershberger, Keawe Nakoa-Strance, Justyn Toyama, Austin Hicks, Alicia Hicks, Chris Peterschmidt, and Kiana Ching.
