Washington, D.C. – Senator Daniel Akaka (D-HI) issued the following statement on the National Labor Relations Board’s proposed rule change issued earlier this week that would modernize the process that workers use to decide if they want to form a union and improve the efficiency of the private sector election process:
“I support the National Labor Relation Board’s proposed rule change, which will help to create a level playing field and ensure that the deck is not stacked against workers exercising their right to organize. Workers – many of whom are struggling during these difficult economic times – deserve the right to decide if they wish to join a union without delay or intimidation. This common sense proposal will protect that right, and will make the private sector union election process more efficient and less costly.â€
