The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for South facing shores of all islands including the North and East facing shores of the Big Island. The advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. Tuesday through 6 p.m. Thursday (June 19-23).
Surf is forecast at five to eight feet on Tuesday and eight to ten feet on Wednesday. Beachgoers should be cautious of large breaking waves, rip currents and beach erosion due to surf conditions.
The cause of the high surf is an intense low pressure system below New Zealand last week which sent swells towards Hawaii arriving this week.
