Seventh annual Celebration of Fatherhood (June 18)

Fathers and families are invited to attend this year’s Annual Celebration of Fatherhood 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 18at the Swing Zone in Kona.

Hosted by Family Support Hawaii’s West Hawaii Fatherhood Initiative, this free event is open to the public and will be held in honor of the fathers in our community.

Attendees will enjoy free shave ice and lunch, as well as unlimited use of batting cages, miniature golf, water slides, climbing wall, and dunking booth.

Bruddha Matt and Poncho Man will provide musical entertainment, and a spectacular grand prize of two seats aboard Blue Hawaiian Helicopters’ Kohala Coast adventure tour will be awarded to a lucky father.

Information on community resources and free blood pressure screenings will also be available at the event.

Activities will begin with a brief program to honor the fathers enrolled in the Na Makua Kane Maikai O Hawaii fatherhood program.

“Our fatherhood program has gained momentum in the past seven years and continues providing a unique opportunity for men to strengthen their role as fathers,” says Kauila Ho, fatherhood specialist. “Even in these trying times, we have been able to provide our services free of charge to all who need them.”

Founded in 1979 by members of the community who were concerned about the life-long consequences of child abuse and neglect, Family Support Hawaii is a non-profit 501(c)3 agency that offers a multitude of programs that touch nearly every facet of family life on the Big Island.

This past year, FSH provided direct support to 3,500+ families through its various programs.
