Konawaena High School Class of 1977 alumni attended church on Sunday to congratulate their classmate, Eric Matsumoto, on becoming the 16th Bishop of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii.

Sunday was a proud moment for the family of Bishop Matsumoto as well.

The bishop’s father, Glenn Matsumoto, offered flowers at the beginning of the service. Glenn sat in the second row with his wife, Ann, and the Bishop’s wife and two children.

It was a special day for the Kona Hongwanji Ohana, as temple members flocked to church that day.

The Bishop’s message reminded him of the song, “May Peace Prevail.”

Peace needs to be nurtured in our hearts and minds, he said. If enough people embrace it in our society, peace has a chance to grow and spread.
