Police still seeking witnesses to robbery attempt at Kinoole McDonald’s in Hilo

Big Island police are renewing their request for witnesses to a robbery at a fast food restaurant in downtown Hilo on March 6.

Sometime between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., three unknown men tried to remove the wallet from a 57-year-old Hilo man in the parking lot of the new McDonalds restaurant on Kino’ole Street.

One of the suspects is described as a local male in his mid 20s to mid 30s, approximately 5-foot-11 to 6-feet tall with a husky build, a dark complexion and shoulder-length curly hair pushed up. He was not wearing a shirt.

The second man was described as a local male in his early 20s, about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-11 with a medium build, a dark complexion and short dark hair. He was wearing dark shorts and no shirt.

Detectives learned that there was a third suspect involved, who is described as a local male in his 20s, approximately 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-7, with a slim build and a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored T-shirt, a pair of dark-colored shorts, and a black cap with a design on it and worn backwards.

Police would like to speak with a couple who assisted the victim and to any other witnesses who were in the area during the robbery attempt. Police ask that witnesses or anyone else with information on this case call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
