High Surf Advisory with South Shore Swells of 5-8 feet

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for the South Facing Shores of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Wednesday (May 25).

A powerful weather system low near New Zealand last week generated a long period of swells which will bring high surf to Southern shores of all islands.

Surf in Kona and Ka‘u are forecast for five to eight feet in height and will continue through Wednesday. Swimmers and beach goers should use caution around the ocean due to rip currents and beach erosion.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday (May 26) for the Kaiwi, Pailolo and Alehuihaha Channels along with Maalae Bay also leeward and southeast waters of the Big Island.
