Big Isle candidates sought for UH Board of Regents

MEDIA RELEASE

The Regents Candidate Advisory Council (RCAC) will soon begin the recruitment process to fill a vacancy for a County of Hawaii seat on the University of Hawaii Board of Regents.

The vacant seat was previously occupied by an interim regent whose term expired at the end of this year’s legislative session.

Upon appointment by Gov. Neil Abercrombie, the appointee for this seat will serve until he/she is confirmed by the Hawaii State Senate.

For more information on how to apply or to nominate a candidate, call (808) 692-1218 or visit www.hawaii.edu/rcac

The deadline for applications is Monday, June 13, 2011.

RCAC will also begin recruitment early this fall to fill the Kauai County, City and County of Honolulu, At Large, and Student seats, with terms beginning July 1, 2012.

Members of the UH Board of Regents as well as the Regents Candidate Advisory Council, who represent various constituent groups, serve voluntarily and are not paid.

The Regents Candidate Advisory Council of the University of Hawaii, as created by Act No. 56 of the 2007 Session Laws of Hawaii, identifies candidates for the university system’s governing Board of Regents.

The council presents pools of qualified candidates to the governor of Hawaii from which candidates are nominated and appointed by the governor, with the consent of the State Senate.
