Kealakehe High School robotics hoike (May 18)

Kealakehe High School’s robotics team will celebrate its year of success at a community outreach event 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at Kealakehe High School, M103.

The team competed in its first Hawaii VEX championship tournament. The team placed first in Hawaii’s Robotics Competition and competed in two championships placing second at the BIRR Underwater Robotics event and won the GM Industrial Engineering award at Hawaii FRC.

The team also competed in its first International Championship amongst 400 robots.

The team’s first hoike will include several robotic demonstrations and opportunities for visiting community members to operate various robots created this year. Students and mentors will be available for any questions or discussions. Individuals may learn how they can promote high level technology education in Kona.

The team also will recognize its major sponsors, student leaders and six seniors who were granted almost $1 million in scholarships.

Parents, students and community members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Attendance may also bring incandescent bulbs for a free upgrade to high-efficiency compact fluorescent bulbs.
