There are always creative ways one can help their community.

Gage Allen needed a community-based project for his Eagle Scout badge and chose to coordinate and help with restoration of the sea wall at Hale Halawai that was damaged by the March 2011 tsunami.

Gage contacted a licensed mason, Gregg Knapp, who subsequently donated his time, knowledge and equipment to show Gage and other members of Holualoa Boy Scout Troop 26 how to restack the stones and cap the wall with concrete.

“I was touched to hear about Gage’s offer to repair the wall,” Kailua Village Business Improvement District president Eric von Platen Luder said. “Not only will Gage make a fine Eagle Scout, he has set the bar high for all of us when considering what we might do to help Historic Kailua Village become a better place to invest, live, work and play.”
