Winter Weather Advisory extended for Big Island summits

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Winter Weather Advisory for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa summit of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Monday (May 9)

Freezing rain and snow are forecast to continue through the evening and the advisory could be extended if conditions don’t improve.

As of 8:13 a.m. the road to Mauna Kea summit is reported closed to the public above the Visitor’s Information Station due to snow and ice.
