MEDIA RELEASE

Recognized as a Presidential Scholar in February, Parker School senior, Mary Kamitaki has been selected as one of approximately 560 semifinalists to advance to the final round of competition.

Kamitaki is among six students representing the state and the only one from the Big Island to advance.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President and is one of the Nation’s highest honors a high school student can obtain. It is administered through the U. S. Department of Education.

Application to the program is by invitation only; students do not apply individually to the program, nor do their schools nominate them. Mary was identified for this honor through her academic achievements and exceptional scores on the SAT and ACT.

Kamitaki has been accepted to the following schools and will be attending one of them in the fall; Swarthmore College, Wesleyan University, Kenyon College, Middleburg University, Pomona College, Muhlenberg College, Barnard College, Carelton University and Vassar College.
