DUI stats for the week of April 4-10, 2011

During the week of April 4, 2011, through April 10, 2011, Big Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 374 DUI arrests compared with 421 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 381 major accidents so far this year compared with 388 during the same period last year, a decrease of of 1.8 percent.

So far this year, there were seven traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with eight fatalities during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.5 percent.

To date, two fatalities this year were related to drugs only (2), alcohol only (0) or a combination of both (0 of the 7).

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
