MEDIA RELEASE
A South Kona man has been arrested and charged with two crimes in connection with a domestic dispute and discharging a firearm.
Around 7 a.m. Thursday (April 7), Kona patrol officers responded to a report of abuse in progress on Painted Church Road in Honaunau. En route, the officers received additional information that a gunshot had been heard in the same area.
Responding officers determined that a 21-year-old HÅnaunau woman had been involved in a domestic dispute with her domestic partner, 27-year-old Jeremy Schneider, also of Honaunau. During the dispute, the woman was shoved to the ground, which caused injury to her right wrist.
A neighbor tried to intervene by yelling at Schneider to stop. Schneider exchanged words with the neighbor, went into his own house, returned with a .22 caliber rifle and reportedly fired a single shot into the air.
Police arrested Schneider on suspicion of abuse of a family/household member and reckless endangering. Detectives from the Area II Juvenile Aid Section, which investigates domestic violence incidents, continued the investigation. At 12:40 p.m., they charged Schneider with both offenses. He was released from police custody after posting $1,000 bail.
