Tropical fruit growers hosting Brady (March 30)

The Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers is presenting a program by Dr. Stephen Brady, a Florida collector of rare tropical fruits.

The program is 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 30 at Mokupapapa Discovery Center.

The public is welcome to attend.

Brady will explain ways to manage a diversified, integrated farm based on the Malaysian Kampong model of sustainable agriculture.

Presently, Brady is working to introduce a variety of unusual Australian native fruits to the Florida market, including Illawarra Plum, Midgin Berry, Burdekin Plum, Riberry and Quandong.

Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers is an organization of commercial and backyard growers whose primary purpose is promoting the interests of any and all aspects of tropical fruit in the State of Hawaii.

The group’s annual tropical fruit conference is Sept. 9-11 at the Kona Keauhou Beach Hotel.
