Boys Soccer: Honokaa takes Div. II state championship

Honokaa overpowered Kapaa for the Division II boys soccer state championship Saturday evening on Oahu.

Also, Dylan Shiraki was selected the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. He was joined on the all-tournament team by four other Honokaa players and two from HPA.

Two first-half goals within a couple minutes and a second brace in the final minutes were enough to secure the Division II state title for Honokaa.

No. 1 seed Honokaa earned the school’s first boys soccer title with a convincing 4-1 win against No. 2 Kapaa.

In earlier Division II action, St. Anthony topped HPA, 2-1, in the match for third place overall. And Konawaena was blanked 1-0 by Mid-Pacific but still comes home with sixth place overall.

The Division I title game pit unseeded teams from Punahou and Kaiser. Punahou ruled the day, blanking Kaiser 5-0.

Big Island final results in Division I:

* Hilo and Mililani share fifth place overall after a 1-1 tie.

* Waiakea earns eighth place overall after a 3-0 loss to Roosevelt.
