UH-Hilo finishes 7th in golf at San Antonio, Texas

MEDIA RELEASE

A northern front produced colder weather and stronger winds in the final round of the Lady Rattler Roundup as the University of Hawaii at Hilo finished 7th in the 13-team tournament hosted by St. Edward’s University on the Pecan Valley Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.

“Everybody started poorly,” said UHH Head Coach Jim DeMello. “The first hole is a lay-up hole and if you hit it left you end up in water. It was a hard way to start.

“The first two holes killed us.”

Nyssa Aoki, who led the Vulcans after the first round with a 3-over-par 75, saw her score balloon by nine strokes to 84 to finish the tournament in 15th place. Nicole Aoki turned in the same final round score and finished tied for 34th with a 167 (83-84).

Dayna Bersamin finished tied for 26th place (80-85=165) followed by Kacie Harada (45th, 84-87=171) and Kiley Umeda (T54, 88-95=182).

St. Edward’s Wallis Spears won the tournament at 5-over-par 149 (71-78).
