Governor Abercrombie on the passage of the civil union bill

MEDIA RELEASE

Honolulu – Today the state Senate passed out the civil union measure (SB 232 SD1 HD1). It now goes to Governor Neil Abercrombie who has 10 legislative days (after transmittal and excluding weekends, holidays, and recess days) to sign the measure. Following the bill’s passage, Governor Abercrombie issued the following statement:

“I have always believed that civil unions respect our diversity, protect people’s privacy, and reinforce our core values of equality and aloha.

“I appreciate all the time and effort invested by those who shared their thoughts and concerns regarding civil unions in Hawai‘i. This has been an emotional process for everyone involved, but that process is now ended. Everyone has been heard; all points of view respected.

“For me, this bill represents equal rights for all the people of Hawai‘i.”

You know, Hawaii really did itself a tremendous disservice electing Abercrombie as governor. He is far more liberal than I think many Hawaiians realize. He wants to sign this garbage legislation and then he also has appointed an open and avowed lesbian to the state supreme court. Do we see a pattern here. In Congress, Abercombie belonged to the LGBT caucus. Is he secretly gay? One way or the other, he is bad news – really bad news.

      Aloha Steve,

It is most sad to read this post. The core principal is diversity. What is wrong in our Governor appointing, as you say, “an open and avowed lesbian to the state supreme court” Sounds like you are prejudice….if you are….I wish you well in that as you grow older. “Nothing to fear but fear itself”…..

Steve, bless your heart…I hope one day very soon you’ll realize that being supportive and compassionate toward gays and lesbians doesn’t have to mean you are gay yourself! I hope to see a pattern here, of tolerance, compassion and a celebration of our diversity as well as our oneness. Really really good news!
